TomTom has just launched a new online map, which shows traffic incidents and hold ups live, so that you can see in almost-real-time whether it's worth venturing out, or why someone might be running late.
You used to have to get the satnav out and be a subscriber to one of the live update subscription services to get this sort of information, but now all you need to do is head to http://www.tomtom.com/livetraffic and you'll get the information you need. Simply zoom into the area you're looking for and click on the orange incident dots to see information on the hold-up, including the anticipated delay time.
"You won't find a more accurate or reliable source of live traffic information anywhere", says Ralf-Peter Schäfer, Traffic Director TomTom. "The live traffic map is the perfect starting point for anyone planning a journey or who needs the most up-to-date view of the traffic on the road. By giving more drivers access to TomTom HD Traffic, we hope that we can start to make better use of the road network and start to reduce traffic congestion for everyone."
